The National Trail Accessibility Survey Findings report details how people in the disability community access outdoor recreation opportunities and their opinions on the tools needed to do so safely.

We developed this survey in partnership with AccessNow and respondents included individuals who have disabilities or are close to, or work with, someone with disabilities.

Key findings include:

  • insights on how respondents use trails:
  • 52% said they use recreational trails monthly
  • 57% spend between 1 and 3 hours on trail outings
  • 86% use trails while on vacation
  • motivations and barriers for using trails:
  • Spending time in nature is the most common motivator (31%)
  • The largest barrier reported is a lack of information about which trails are accessible (54%)
  • preferred way of accessing information about trails:
  • 56% said detailed information is their preferred form of trail classification

These survey results are shared to help improve trail accessibility for all.
